24. Vicente Rojo Lluch

Rojo Lluch, Vicente (Énguera, 1894 – Madrid, 1966).

Militar español. Huérfano de militar, ingresó en la Academia de Infantería de Toledo en 1911, y en 1914 consiguió el grado de subteniente. Después de sucesivos destinos en Ceuta, Barcelona y la Seu d’Urgell, en 1923 fue destinado a la Academia de Infantería como profesor de táctica, cargo en el que se mantuvo hasta 1932, cuando ingresó a la Escuela Superior de Guerra con el objetivo de realizar el curso de Estado Mayor. Ascendido a comandante el 25 de febrero de 1936, al estallar la guerra civil, en julio de 1936, se mantuvo fiel a la República. Desde su puesto de agregado al Estado Mayor Central, en octubre de 1936 fue nombrado teniente coronel y al mismo tiempo Largo Caballero lo designó 2º Jefe del Estado Mayor. Durante la ofensiva franquista contra Madrid, fue nombrado jefe del Estado Mayor de las Fuerzas de Defensa, bajo el mando del general Miaja, convirtiéndose, de esta manera, en uno de los héroes militares de la defensa de Madrid. Con un prestigio acrecentado, en marzo de 1937 fue nombrado coronel y en mayo, tras la formación del gobierno Negrín, Jefe del Estado Mayor Central de las Fuerzas Armadas y jefe del EM del Ejército de Tierra. Desde este nuevo empleo se encargó de dirigir la expansión del Ejército Popular, y creó el Ejército de Maniobra, que debía servir de avanzadilla ofensiva del Ejército Republicano. A lo largo de 1937 proyectó las ofensivas de Huesca, Brunete, Belchite, Zaragoza y Teruel y en octubre de 1937 ascendió a general. En estos momentos era ya uno de los militares más prestigiosos de la República.
