En la segunda parte del documental, un salto atrás en el tiempo nos lleva a los antecedentes de los conocimientos recogidos y traducidos en Toledo.
Así llegamos a la Biblioteca de Alejandría, fundada por los sucesores de Alejandro Magno. Este era un lugar donde los sabios, gracias al mecenazgo de los reyes Ptolomeos, podían dedicarse plenamente al estudio, rodeados de una recopilación extraordinaria de todos los libros que se podían conseguir en aquellos tiempos.

La biblioteca mantuvo su actividad durante seis siglos, más allá del período ptolemaico, alcanzando cotas del saber que se tardarían, en algunos casos, hasta 1.500 años en volverse a alcanzar.
